The FIFA World Rankings rank all 211 national associations using a points-based system introduced in 2018. Points are awarded for every official international match — the amount depends on the result (win, draw or loss), the importance of the match (friendlies count for less than World Cup qualifiers or tournaments), the strength of the opponent, and the confederation weighting. The ±Pts column shows the change since the previous ranking release. Rankings directly determine seedings and pot assignments for World Cup draws and continental qualifying competitions.
